	Regreso a CasaWriting + Publication Design&#38;nbsp;

Regreso a Casa is an original publication dedicated to my mother, Susana Campos. In this personal publication I capture the memories my mother has of her home state of Nayarit in Mexico. My hope is that through this publication and the preservation of memories we can traverse time and space to visit the place she calls home.&#38;nbsp;

	Andrea is a Mexican American visual designer&#38;nbsp;crafting&#38;nbsp;meaningful work&#38;nbsp;at the intersection of&#38;nbsp;community and design.
She is a graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Visual Communication Design and American Ethnic Studies specializing in Chican@ studies. Currently she’s finishing up a M.S. in Agroecology at the Univeristy of Wisconsin- Madison, after embarking on an independent study of food systems during her time at Waseda University in Japan.&#38;nbsp;

+Typeface Designmercado is a bold calligraphic typeface originally inspired by the handpainted sign of the Nick and Sons Moving Company. 	Signs of Gentrification
+ Exhibition Design &#38;nbsp;

This project addressed how we visualize the changes in our communities&#38;nbsp;to demonstrate the severity of gentrification. Our solution&#38;nbsp;was to display images of former businesses before closure, juxtaposed&#38;nbsp;with new developments in the background. On the backside&#38;nbsp;of the sign, quotes from former customers are written to provide&#38;nbsp;context for the viewer to understand the community’s relationship&#38;nbsp;with the businesses.

	The Ethnic Aisle

How might we shed light on the problems surrounding the ethnic foods aisle while reimagining how and why stores can bette reflect the food cultures of the diverse communities they serve. We designed a storefront exhibition that gives an overview of the&#38;nbsp;issues regarding the ethnic foods aisle and prompts passer-byers&#38;nbsp;to consider possible solutions for the exclusion present in our&#38;nbsp;grocery stores.Collaborators: Lily Murphy and Ashley Tseng

	Spring 2022++ marks The End of an Era and the culmination of my design education at the University of Washington.

As a final hurrah, I’ve set out to capture the moments that fill my last quarter as a design student as art pieces that have more accurately manifested as material explorations. My goal was to utilize materials I already owned and had accumulated during my design education. Some moments are more related to design, while others capture the time that I’ve spent strengthening the relationships I have with friends that also happen to be design students. While I do not consider myself an artist by any means, I wanted the focus of my capstone to be physical making. I used 22 materials and created 20 pieces tied to memories experienced sometime this quarter. Looking back at the works I completed, they are a great interpretation of my quarter as there are varying amounts of effort and time dedicated to each. 


While it was essential for me to use the art materials that I had hoarded for the past 3 years for this project, I also wanted to create in spaces that had no previous association with formal design work. For the most part, I was making on a tiny desk in front of my living room window but also had a larger workspace that I ended up not using at all.

The material explorations are organized in chronological order and can be jumped to with the menu to the left. The hongo.daily logo functions as a home button and takes you back to the main selection page. To go back to the continuous scroll of “End of an Era” click on an item in the left navigation menu then hit the logo mark. Hopefully, everything on this website works. If not... I don't know what to say, this is my first time trying to build a website... ever.
I would also like to add, again, that I am not an artist and that this was a huge experiment that was much more focused on the tools than the end results. This is very much a WIP and I'm sure many things could be better.
Lastly, if something is misspelled or not perfectly aligned, no it's not, it's good!
